Getting Started Guide - Part 2
Downloading a file Once you're logged in you can now begin downloading files.
  • The first step is finding a series that looks good. Go to our anime list and pick a series.
  • Next select an episode, normally starting with episode one, but maybe you've already seen it.
  • If you're logged in you'll see a button with the words "proceed to download". It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out you need to click it ^_~
  • You'll now be brought to a list of file servers. This is the heart of Anime-Direct.com, we have many ( over 4 ) separate servers to download from. Just pick one, normally the "primary file server", the first one, is your best bet. If it's slow, or even down you can go ahead and download the file from any of the other servers.
  • For Windows: To download a file simply right click the link that says "Click here to download from this server", and select "save target as..." then click save. If you're using Internet Explorer do not try left clicking the link; it'll automatically open the link in Windows Media player, and will not save the file to your hard drive.
  • For Macs: To download a file press and hold Control (Ctrl) and click the link that says "Click here to download from this server". This will bring up a menu, select "Download Link to Disk", and select the location you would like to save the file."

Using a download manger Since the files we offer are so large, 200MB+, we recommend the use of a download manger. Download mangers allow you to resume downloads if they are interrupted, and they can also accelerate your downloading speed.
  • We recommend Leechget 2005, it's spyware and adware free. We've tested it and found that it works perfectly with our servers.
  • After installation leechget will integrate itself with Internet Explorer. To download using Leechget follow the directions above, but instead of selecting "save target as..." chose "download using leechget"

Some people prefer using iGetter, it's also one of the few download managers for Macs. It's shareware ( costs money for the full version ), but even if you don't pay to activate it it's still very functional. Like Leechget iGetter is Spyware and Adware free. The steps to using iGetter are basically the same as using Leechget. Mac users should Hold Control (ctrl) while clicking the link and select "Download with iGetter"

Verifying Downloads It's very rarely, but sometimes a download can fail or get corrupted. To verify your downloads you can use MD5 hashing. An MD5 hash is like a file's finger print; if a file has changed in anyway so will its MD5 hash. To verify your download do the following steps.
  • Download this program ( Windows only )*
  • Run the program ( MD5.exe ) and select the file you think may be corrupt.
  • After it's finished ( it may take a few minutes ) it will display a long string of numbers and letters. This is the MD5 hash.
  • Now, select the series then the episode from our list of anime.
  • Under "Episode Information" you should see "MD5 Hash:" compare that hash with the one generated by the program. If they match then your download succeeded, if not, then something went wrong while you were downloading and you should try downloading it again.

FireFox users can install MDHashTool to automatically verify all your downloads.

*If you use iGetter you can get the MD5 hash by selecting the history folder then the file; the MD5 hash will be displayed under "File Info". Note: iGetter calls it a MD5 checksum, but they are the same thing.
